Yuvraj Singh, the India star batsman, has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa after anguishing a fractured finger.
Yuvraj, who had been hyped as one of the potential stars of the competition, undergo the injury whilst training today in Johannesburg. Virat Kohli has been called up as an alternate.
“Yuvraj has fractured a finger in his right hand and has been ruled out for six weeks,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India statement, said.
India, who begin their campaign against Pakistan on Saturday, are already without a raft of stars including Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan, who have shoulder injuries, while Gautam Gambhir is still recovering from a groin strain.
