IPL to shell out Rs 60 lakh for cop security

The IPL organisers will have to shell out about Rs 60 lakh to the police for the security cover for the three matches which will be played here. The police have sent a notice to the IPL, said sources.

"According to the rules, we have prepared estimated cost of security personnel being provided for the matches. The rates charged from the IPL organisers are different for policeman of each rank," said a police officer.

He added that as there would be about 1,800 policemen of various ranks to be deputed for security at the hotel where the teams will stay and the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, the estimated cost of security is around Rs 20 lakh for each match.

"Notice has been issued and we are awaiting payments. We have been informed that payments will be made soon," said the officer.

"The IPL organisers have agreed to pay the amount in 2-3 days. Discussions regarding this was held in presence of RCA president C P Joshi," said the officer.

The cops are also awaiting an amount of Rs 1.15 crore from the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) for the security cover they provided during the ICC champions trophy in 2006 at the SMS Stadium. Despite several notices to the RCA, the amount has not been paid till date.

The amount (Rs 1.15 crore) is also substantiated by the audit report of the Controller and Auditor General for 2008-09, following the evaluation of the documents from the SP (south) office.
